Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni makes a confession after opening the scoring against Cagliari and assures he ‘asks for nothing more’ despite links with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

The reigning Champions of Italy were stalling in Sardinia this evening until Bastoni’s looping header at the back post went over everyone to slot into the far top corner.

Speaking in a press conference after the 3-0 victory, the centre-back was asked why his goal celebration had been so muted.

“To be honest, I was not even trying to score and did not look at the net,” laughed Bastoni.

“I was just trying to put it back in the middle. It wasn’t an intentional goal, but it went well, so I’ll take it.”

Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu went on to round out the 3-0 result at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, but Bastoni’s goal was the 12th scored by Inter defenders this season.

“Our defence participates in the attacking moves and this really helps everyone. The switch we made as a team was that we attack together and defend together.”

The result puts Inter joint top of the table with Atalanta, both having played 17 Serie A matches.

“There are many rivals for the Scudetto, Atalanta and Napoli are doing well, so we must continue trying to win every game.”

Bastoni is considered one of the best defenders in Italy and has been linked with approaches from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

However, he assures that he does not feel in any way overlooked.

“I am the first to prefer keeping a low profile. I feel appreciated where I am and ask for nothing more. The rest is not of interest to me, I just want to be appreciated by the people I work with.”
