Sky Germany and Fabrizio Romano report that Bayer Leverkusen are in talks to sign Manchester City’s James McAtee as they look to replace the injured Martin Terrier.
The first offer for Leverkusen has been a loan with an option to buy they are now in talks with City to reach an agreement, McAtee is currently valued at €25m. The 22-year-old has always been a target for Leverkusen but there has never been an opportunity to sign him. The arrival of Omar Marmoush at City has now opened the door for Leverkusen.
McAtee is said to be Leverkusen’s number one option to replace Terrier who will miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury. Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendia is said to be Leverkusen’s backup option if a move for McAtee falls through before the end of the window.
Mainz were even said to be interested in McAtee, but it was likely seen as an ambitious move to the 05ers.
Attack is not the only area Leverkusen are looking to add numbers to. Die Werkself are said to be interested in adding another centre-back to their squad with AS Roma’s Mario Hermoso the leading candidate.
