Bayer Leverkusen are keen on a deal for Aston Villa attacking player Emiliano Buendia in the January transfer window.
That is according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who has reported on X what Villa’s stance is on a potential exit for Buendia.
Bayer are looking to sign Buendia on a loan deal with an option to make it permanent at the end of the season.
While Premier League club Villa are open to letting the £33 million (BBC Sport) Argentine leave on loan, they are “demanding an obligation option”.
Plettenberg wrote: “EXCL | Bayer 04 Leverkusen exploring loan deal for Emiliano Buendia!
“28 y/o versatile attacking midfielder under contract at Aston Villa until 2026. Leverkusen considering a loan with an option buy. Villa demanding an obligation option.
“Another club is also in the race for him. Buendia could replace Martin Terrier who will miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury.”
Buendia is a very good player who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger.
The Argentine has been on the books of Villa since 2021, and while there have been occasions when he had done well, overall, he has not been particularly great at Villa, who have been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha.
Buendia was a star at Norwich City, but the 28-year-old has not progressed as much as one would have expected him to at Villa.
The attacking midfielder has not made a single start in the Premier League so far this season. He has made 11 substitute appearances in the league.
In 19 appearances for the Villans this campaign, the 28-year-old has scored three goals.
Buendia played 41 matches in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side last season. He scored five goals and gave three assists in those games.
Villa are not going to miss the Argentine. While Buendia is a good option to have in the squad, that Emery has not used him much in the Premier League this season indicates that he does not rate him highly.
The Villans are eighth in the Premier League table at the moment with 36 points from 22 matches, five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
