Bayern Munich have seemingly gained a significant advantage over Real Madrid in the race to secure the signing of Florian Wirtz, according to SPORT.
This development could be a major setback for Los Blancos, who have been keeping a close eye on the young German. Wirtz is expected to be one of the most sought-after players in the upcoming summer transfer window, with several elite clubs vying for his signature.
In that regard, Bayern Munich have been working strategically for months to edge ahead in the competition, conducting multiple meetings to position themselves as favourites. They are even prepared to pay over €100 million to secure Wirtz.
Bayern’s interest in Wirtz dates back to when he was recovering from a serious knee injury. While the Bavarian club had considered making a move earlier, they waited to ensure his full recovery.
Last summer, there were discussions about a transfer, but Wirtz’s close circle advised against it, preferring he continue his development at Leverkusen.

Now, however, the time seems right for the talented winger to make a high-profile move, with Bayern keen to bring him to the Allianz Arena.
One hurdle for Bayern is that Bayer Leverkusen would ideally prefer to sell Wirtz to a club outside the Bundesliga, avoiding strengthening a domestic rival. However, the final decision rests with Wirtz, and reports suggest he is leaning towards committing to Bayern Munich.
For Real Madrid, the situation is less promising. Although the Spanish giants have expressed interest, they have yet to make significant progress in negotiations.
The potential appointment of Xabi Alonso as manager could influence their efforts, but Bayern have already done much of the groundwork. German sources believe Madrid are late to the race and lack the intent to fully commit to this operation.
