With a couple of games left in 2024, the winter break is around the corner for Bayern Munich. Vincent Kompany has managed to help the team recover from a trophyless campaign by implementing an attractive style of football. Bayern are consistently dismantling opposition in the Bundesliga and will likely go into the break with a comfortable lead at the top of the points table.
Die Roten will use winter break to settle the future of several senior players. Alphonso Davies is one of the few players in the squad who will soon enter the final six months of the current deal. The Canadian defender reportedly held positive talks with Bayern regarding renewal, but a final decision has not been made.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Davies will not make a final decision in the next couple of weeks. The Canadian will sit down with his representatives in January and conclude what he wants to do next in his career. Rekordmeister will not make any announcement about the future of Davies in December.
Bayern president Herbert Hainer publicly urged Davies to stay in Munich and become the club’s face for the next decade. However, Die Roten have to do significant work to reach an agreement over a new contract with the Canadian defender. There has been a disagreement over salary between the two parties for more than 18 months.
The 24-year-old defender can listen to offers from clubs that are interested in signing Davies on a free transfer. According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, Davies will hold talks with Manchester United and Real Madrid in January.
Bayern are putting pressure on Davies to sign a new deal before January 1. However, the Canadian defender is in no rush to make a decision. He wants to hear the offers from Manchester United and Real Madrid. Bayern are reportedly concerned that the two European rivals may offer a better contract proposal to turn Davies’ head.
Real Madrid have been heavily linked with Davies over the last two years. The Spanish club didn’t make an offer last summer, which forced Bayern to let Davies enter the final year of his contract. They remain favourites to sign him if he decides to leave Munich. Meanwhile, Manchester United have shown interest in signing Davies on a free transfer this season. He will be an ideal fit for the left wing-back position under the new head coach, Ruben Amorim.
