The DFB have announced that Bayern Munich’s DFB Pokal game against 1.FC Saarbrücken today will go ahead after a pitch inspection.

Due to heavy rain in the Saarland, Saarbrücken’s game against Dynamo Dresden on Sunday was suspended due to a waterlogged pitch. The state of the pitch as well as the impending weather had put Bayern’s game at risk of not being played.

After several days of delayed inspection, those responsible have inspected the pitch and have decided that the game can go ahead this evening.

The question now will be whether Saarbrücken can follow other teams and cause an upset. Tuesday’s games provided the biggest upset as Regionalliga side Homburg defeated Greuther Fürth 2-1.

While Kaiserslautern upset Köln winning 3-2. Both Arminia Bielefeld against Hamburg and Unterhaching against Fortuna Düsseldorf both came close to also causing an upset. The winners of the Pokal for the past two seasons, RB Leipzig were eliminated after a 1-0 loss to Wolfsburg.
