Sheffield United are nearing a change of ownership. The side are set to be bought by an American group named COH Sports, who will acquire the club from Saudi group United World for around £100m. United World accepted the bid and the EFL have approved the sale. United World are also the owners of Pro League strugglers Beerschot, as well as Kerala United in India and Al-Hilal United in the United Arab Emirates.

This will bring to an end the link between Beerschot and Sheffield United. During their successful Challenger Pro League season, United World had been said to be looking to sell the Belgian side. However, once promotion was secured, they decided to remain in charge. There are no plans for Beerschot to change owners to COH Sports as well. For now, as reported by Het Nieuwsblad, Beerschot will remain as United World’s only European side. How much longer this will last remains to be seen, and it is unlikely that the sale of the Yorkshire club will suddenly see an influx of capital into the Antwerp based side.

Beerschot have been improving in recent weeks. They fought back to win 3-2 at home against Cercle Brugge in the league before beating KV Mechelen in the cup.
