Goncalo Franco is a wanted man this summer
A number of clubs are showing an interest in signing Swansea City midfielder Goncalo Franco this summer.
According to Wales Online, the 24-year-old is attracting suitors from both England and abroad following his standout performances for the Welsh outfit last season.
Franco arrived with the Swans last summer from Portuguese side Moreirense, and made 40 appearances in the Championship.
He contributed two goals and two assists in the league, as Alan Sheehan guided the team to an 11th-place finish in the table.
It has been reported that Swansea will be facing interest for Franco from a number of clubs in the upcoming transfer window.
It is believed that clubs in England, as well as Germany and Portugal, are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old following his impressive debut campaign in the Championship.
However, no official approaches have yet been made, with the Swans hoping to hold onto the player for the time being.
Franco is expected to play a key role in Sheehan’s side next season, so it is likely that a sizable offer will be needed to convince the club to cash in.
The midfielder has a contract with Swansea until the summer of 2028, giving the Welsh outfit plenty of leverage in any potential negotiations this transfer window.
But the financial situation at the Championship side does mean that there is likely a number at which they may be tempted to sell.
Franco joined Swansea last summer and immediately asserted himself as a key part of the team.
He started 39 of his 40 appearances in the Championship, as the side missed out on a play-off place by just seven points.
Sheehan will be hoping to use this summer to bridge that gap to the top six, but losing someone of Franco’s importance would be a setback in that pursuit.
Franco will have to command a big fee in order for Swansea to sanction a sale given his importance to the team.
He was a standout performer last season, and fans quickly took to him as a favourite with the quality of his displays.
It’s no surprise that he’s attracting transfer interest, but his contract situation does give Swansea a lot of leverage to negotiate a big transfer fee.
