Harry Darling is out of contract with Swansea City at the end of the season
Birmingham City remain interested in signing Swansea City defender Harry Darling this summer.
According to Wales Online, they are just one club monitoring the player’s situation ahead of the end of the campaign.
Darling has been a key figure for the Swans over the last three seasons, featuring 35 times this year with the team mid-table in the Championship.
However, his contract is set to expire in June, meaning he could walk away from the club for nothing unless a new deal can be agreed.
It has been reported that Birmingham are eyeing a move for Darling this summer amid uncertainty over the player’s future.
The centre-back is coming to the end of his deal with Swansea and could be available for nothing, with the Blues set for promotion from League One.
Director of football with the Swans, Richard Montague, revealed last week that discussions are ongoing with the defender over a new contract.
However, no agreement has yet been reached, leaving the door open for an exit amid this interest from Birmingham.
It was reported by Darren Witcoop in January that both Birmingham and Bristol City were eyeing a move for Darling, but nothing came to fruition. Sheffield United were also linked.
It means if no new contract is agreed in the coming weeks, then the 25-year-old will have no shortage of options in the transfer market.
Darling signed for Swansea in the summer of 2022, moving from MK Dons to join Russell Martin’s side.
He made 31 league appearances in his first campaign for the club, with the team finishing 10th in the table.
He’s since played a further 73 times in the Championship across the next two campaigns, with the team currently sitting 15th in the table.
Next up for Alan Sheehan’s side is a home clash against 24th-place Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday evening in a 7.45pm kick-off.
Darling has been excellent this season for Swansea, standing out as one of their best players in an otherwise underwhelming campaign.
It’s no surprise clubs are circling given he is set to become a free agent in the summer, and he would be a real coup for Birmingham if they could get him.
Darling is a player that could net Swansea a sizable seven-figure sum if he had a contract, so that is a big loss the club are facing if he goes.
