FLW have picked out two Blues players that should depart the club ahead of next season

Birmingham City look set to seal an immediate promotion back to the Championship soon after storming League One, but they are bound to have to leave some players by the wayside if they make the jump up to the second-tier for next season.

Blues' unstoppable campaign has been well-documented, particularly over the last few months, as they edge ever closer to a third-tier title-winning season that has looked all too easy, at times, for Chris Davies' side.

They currently sit top of League One, numerous points ahead of second and third place with time running out for teams to catch up. Promotion could be sealed by early April if results go their way.

There is a real positive feeling around St. Andrew's at this moment in time, and with an immediate promotion back to the second-tier on the horizon, numerous incomings and outgoings are bound to happen in the summer.

With that said, FLW have picked out two Birmingham players that are surely set to depart ahead of their potential Championship campaign, as they are not good enough to make the step-up with the club.

Scott Wright

Scottish winger Scott Wright may have played his last game for Birmingham, after he picked up a serious knee injury last month that looks set to rule him out for the rest of the season.

The 27-year-old joined Blues from Rangers last summer, and got off to a dream start with his new club with an added-time winner against Wigan Athletic on his debut the following day.

He was sidelined by injury for two months from October to December, and failed to find his feet again before he picked up his latest injury in the early stages of their league clash against Reading in February.

Wright's maiden campaign at St. Andrew's has not gone to plan, with three goals and two assists in just 20 appearances in all competitions and only three league starts. He is unlikely to play a part again this season, and it seems unlikely that the club will look to keep him on past this summer.

His statistics, when he was fit, were barely those of a top third-tier player, and Davies' occasional use of a 3-5-2 formation would certainly not suit his abilities as an attack-minded winger. Even when Blues have played with wingers, the likes of Keshi Anderson, Luke Harris and Willum Willumsson have been picked to play ahead of him.

Wright has definitely played his part in Birmingham's champions-elect campaign, but it certainly feels best for both parties for him to seek a move away this summer.

Tyler Roberts

Tyler Roberts has played for eight different clubs across his professional career so far, and may well be seeking another permanent move in the summer, having not even been a part of Chris Davies' League One plans this season.

Roberts is a 20-time Wales international, and featured in over 50 games in the Premier League during his five years with Leeds United, yet his career has taken a downturn in recent seasons.

He failed to make his mark in the second-tier with Blues as they were relegated last term, after a calf injury saw him sidelined for the first four months of the season, and he never really recovered to impact their fortunes from then on in.

The 26-year-old attacker was sent out on loan to fellow third-tier side Northampton Town last summer, after making just two cup appearances for Birmingham in August, and he has even struggled to make an impact for the Cobblers amid injury and form issues.

It already feels like Roberts is an afterthought at St. Andrew's, and, given how well so many of their new signings have performed this term, his exit seems like a foregone conclusion ahead of this summer's transfer window.

Whether Blues will be able to seal a permanent exit for the versatile forward remains to be seen, as he is not out of contract until 2027. Regardless, he has been deemed not good enough to play for them in League One, so almost certainly will not figure in their big plans for the second-tier if they seal promotion soon.
