Steve Bruce watched Dundee United's 2-0 loss to Saint Mirren to cast his eye over Wrexham loanee Sam Dalby ahead of a potential Blackpool move.

Blackpool are beginning a summer transfer window whereby the expectation will be to build a squad that is capable of sustaining a promotion challenge in League One, and it has been reported that the Seasiders have been scouting striker Sam Dalby.

Following the appointment of Steve Bruce back in early September, Blackpool enjoyed a generally impressive campaign in which they finished well to end up in ninth place in the third-tier.

In their final 30 games of the season after a last-gasp 2-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers in November, the Tangerines suffered just five defeats and there is a belief that a foundation has now been put in place for them to build from.

The club will expect that they challenge for at least the top six and the play-off places next season with some key additions expected to be made over this summer.

Dalby the subject of Blackpool intrigue

According to the Daily Record, Blackpool boss Bruce was up in Scotland this weekend to cast his eye over Dundee United loanee Sam Dalby with a view to potentially signing the 25-year-old Wrexham forward this summer.

Bruce watched on as United suffered a 2-0 loss to Saint Mirren at Tannadice to leave the Terrors sitting fifth in the Championship round of the Scottish Premiership and still in contention for UEFA Europa Conference League qualification, following their promotion to the top-flight last year.

The report says that Wrexham have offered Dalby, who is out of contract this summer, a new deal but his game-time is expected to be limited in the Championship.

It is also believed that Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin would like to keep the striker but will be unable to compete with the finances on offer in England.

Dalby’s impressive record at Tannadice

Dalby, who came through the academy at Leyton Orient before a move to Leeds United, has enjoyed his best scoring season this season since turning professional.

The Leytonstone-born forward, who has had loan spells with Morecambe, Stockport County and Woking as well as permanent moves to Watford and Southend United, joined Wrexham in the summer of 2022.

He scored six goals in 41 National League appearances as they won the fifth-tier a couple of years ago before making a further 31 league appearances in League Two last season.

He was shipped out on loan to Dundee United last summer and has hit an impressive 14 goals in 33 Scottish Premiership appearances this season with two of those strikes coming against Rangers.

Bruce has got a tune out of former Manchester United forward Ashley Fletcher in the final few months of the campaign, whilst Niall Ennis enjoyed a positive loan spell at Bloomfield Road and they do want to re-sign him on a permanent basis this summer.

Blackpool's other attacking options still under contract on the Lancastrian coast include Tom Bloxham, who joined from Shrewsbury Town in January, as well as Jake Beesley, Kylian Kouassi and Terry Bondo, who finished last season on loan in the Northern Premier League Premier Division with Matlock Town.
