Dion Charles' proposed £750,000 move from Bolton Wanderers to Huddersfield Town has been labelled a "real bargain", providing he can help fire the Terriers back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

It's been reported by The Bolton News that Huddersfield will pay just £750,000 to bring Northern Ireland international Charles to the John Smith's Stadium, with the 29-year-old having just 18 months left on his contract at Bolton.

It looks to be a real coup for Michael Duff's side, with Charles hitting the 20-goal mark in his last seasons at Bolton, and despite a substandard season for his standards, he's still Bolton's top scorer this season with eight goals in all competitions.

With both Bolton and Huddersfield in the mix to win promotion to the Championship, the £750,000 fee set to be paid by the Terriers looks like good business, and the additions of Charles and Joe Taylor will be a huge boost to their promotion hopes.

We asked our Huddersfield Town fan pundit, Graeme Rayner, for his thoughts after it emerged Charles would be on his way to the Terriers, and he claimed it's a good signing providing he helps fire the club back to the Championship.

Speaking to Football League World, Graeme said: "Dion Charles arriving feels like a real statement of intent by the club, having only just acquired Joe Taylor as well, so it takes our spending up to a decent amount.

"They are two players in an area that has long needed addressing, and two players who have a proven track record in League One.

"Dion Charles has played a decent amount of football this season, and he arrives as Bolton’s top scorer this season so far, and he’s scored 20 goals a season for the previous two seasons, so it’s really exciting to see how they might link up and what they might do - it makes the future looks very positive.

"The fee of 750K is a decent fee for what was left of his contract, but that could be a real bargain if these two (Taylor and Charles) get us back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

"A combined fee of £3million to £4million for the two of them looks like a bargain, and Taylor looks like he could play at a higher level and perhaps Dion Charles deserves a crack at a higher level too.

"The future looks a lot brighter, and hopefully they both start on the weekend away to Blackpool and let's see what they can do!"

Dion Charles is a bargain signing for £750,000

While he's not been at his prolific best this season, Charles has genuine League One pedigree, and he could form a deadly partnership with Joe Taylor.

Huddersfield's promotion rivals will be watching on nervously after seeing the likes of Charles and Taylor make the move to the John Smith's Stadium, and all of a sudden it would take a brave man to bet against them winning promotion.

In Charles' two full seasons at Bolton he reached the 20-goal a season mark in both, and he's clearly a player who knows where the back of the net is at this level.

Given his contract situation at Bolton and his drop-off in form this season, you can perhaps see why Ian Evatt wasn't against selling him this month, but Huddersfield are set to benefit.

The £750,000 Huddersfield are set to pay for Charles will be worth every penny should he fire them to the Championship at the first attempt, and it looks a smart bit of business from Duff and the club's hierarchy.
