Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of Stuttgart captain Waldemar Anton for a reported fee of €22.5 million.
The centre-back has signed a four-year contract at the Westfalenstadion, and becomes the second defensive star to depart Sebastian Hoeneß’s side following Hikori Itō’s move to Bayern Munich.
Anton, who was part of Germany’s EURO 2024 squad, signed for Stuttgart in 2020 after coming through the ranks at Hannover, and went onto make 129 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.
He leaves after helping Die Roten to second place in the Bundesliga and qualification for the Champions League for the first time since winning the league in 2007.
Anton will have big boots to fill at Dortmund, having been signed to replace club legend Mats Hummels.
