As the first international break of 2025 truly begins to peak, there have been a number of games for Borussia Dortmund players across various competitions. Let's take a look at how things went for the overseas players this weekend. This is how things played out over the weekend for the international stars:
On Saturday, Julian Ryerson was in action for Norway, who was away to Moldova in World Cup qualifying. The right-back registered a goal, an assist, and a clean sheet in a 5-0 win, playing the 90 minutes. Perfect evening, collectively and individually. His break is now done, and he will return to Dortmund.
Onto Sunday. To begin, Julien Duranville was in action as Belgium U21 hosted Andorra U21 in a friendly. It is hard to find loads of information for this game, but Belgium won 4-0, and Duranville found the back of the net five minutes from full-time. His break is now also done, and he shall return to Dortmund.
Meanwhile, having not been in the squad for the first leg, Salih Özcan was on the bench for Türkiye as they faced Hungary away from home with a 3-1 lead in their pocket. At half time, when 2-0 up on the evening and 5-1 on aggregate, Özcan came on as a sub. Türkiye would score again without reply, winning 3-1 on the day and 6-1 on aggregate.
As a result of these victories, Türkiye has been promoted to League A of the Nations League. In other news, it has now been confirmed that Spain will be in their World Cup qualifying group — along with the already confirmed Georgia and Bulgaria. Özcan's break is now finished, and he will be returning to the Signal Iduna Park.
Across the pond, it was USA who hosted Canada in a Nations League Bronze medal match. Gio Reyna subbed in for the last twenty minutes, and created two of the teams biggest chances of the second half, but his teammates failed to convert either effort.
Unfortunately, the American was not able to help his side back into the game, as they were condemned to a 2-1 defeat, and Gio was booked for a foul in stoppage time. His break is now over as Reyna is awaited with the other to attempt to salvage BVB's season.
