A recent report from Globo has revealed that the pressure on Brazil national team coach Dorival Jr. has intensified following the heavy 1-4 defeat against Argentina.

After Brazil’s disappointing results in November against Venezuela and Uruguay, the March FIFA international break became a crucial period for assessing Dorival Jr.’s tenure.

However, as a result of the defeat against Argentina, discussions about a potential change in leadership have gained momentum, with serious deliberations taking place.

Now, it must be noted that the president of the CBF has long considered Carlo Ancelotti as the ideal candidate to take charge of the national team and with concerns mounting, the Italian’s name has resurfaced as the prime choice.

Brazil are optimistic

There are several factors making this possible. The CBF leadership now has political stability until 2030, and with Ancelotti’s tenure at Real Madrid uncertain beyond the FIFA Club World Cup, there is renewed hope in Brazil.

While the Italian manager remains under contract with Madrid until mid-2026, many believe he is unlikely to continue beyond the June- July tournament in the United States.

Furthermore, those close to Ancelotti suggest that he has remained open to the prospect of managing the Brazilian national team since the first approach was made.

Nothing before the Club World Cup

However, an immediate decision is unlikely due to the Club World Cup commitments. Should Ancelotti remain unavailable, alternative names have been gaining traction.

One emerging candidate is Filipe Luis, currently at Flamengo, who will also be participating in the tournament. Additionally, other options have been discussed, though they have not received the same level of internal support within the CBF.

These include Jorge Jesus, currently managing Al-Hilal, and Abel Ferreira, the head coach of Palmeiras.

Given the circumstances, it is expected that any final decision regarding Brazil’s managerial position will only be made after the FIFA Club World Cup in June.
