Champions League-chasing Nottingham Forest have been dealt a potential blow in the race for Europe after suffering a 2-0 defeat against visiting Brentford at The City Ground.
Scorers: Schade 44', Wissa 70'
As the battle to reach the biggest club competition in Europe continues to swirl in the dying weeks of the Premier League season, Forest's chance of a return to continental action for the first time in decades looked to be in doubt when Kevin Schade put Brentford ahead by a goal just before the half-time interval.
The former German U21 international did his best to split Ola Aina and Nikola Milenković for pace before tapping past Matz Sels after the Bees got the better of the home side in the opening 45 minutes of action.
Struggling to put Brentford on the rack across the 90 minutes of action, Brentford would go on to strike a hammer blow 20 minutes from full-time thanks to key striker Yoane Wissa.
Frank's men once again opted to go long and beat the press, with Wissa jumping on the end of a bouncing ball that caught out Milenković before the Congolese speedster latched on to beat Sels to guarantee a return south with all three points in tow.
With that, Brentford pulls within one point of tenth-sitting Bournemouth and a further point south of both Fulham and Brighton, while Forest failed to leapfrog Chelsea, Man City, and Newcastle in the process.
