Manchester City will enter tonight’s Premier League match against Brentford off the back of three consecutive wins in all competitions. They have beaten Leicester City and West Ham in the Premier League. They followed that with an 8-nil thumping of Salford City in the FA Cup last Saturday. But tonight’s match against Brentford at the GTech Community Stadium will test Pep Guardiola’s side’s recent revival.
At the moment Brentford sit 11th in the Premier League table. At times they have been inconsistent this season. Their past two results illustrate this. The Bees beat Southampton 5-nil in their last Premier League match. But they surprisingly went out of the FA Cup when they down to a 1-nil defeat to Plymouth Argyle last weekend. But they are a team that has quality in their lineup. Especially up front. They are also tough to beat at the GTech Community Stadium.
When you look at the Brentford lineup there is quality in their ranks. Bryan Mbeumo must be contained if Manchester City are to continue their winning run. Mbeumo has scored 13 goals this season and his pace and finishing ability could be a thorn in City’s side. But he isn’t their only threat. Yoanne Wissa, Kevin Schade, Mikkel Damsgaard and Sepp van den Berg are all quality players. That’s just to name a few. Thomas Frank is also a quality manager and he always has his team’s well prepared.
Brentford do look equipped to hit Pep Guardiola’s side on the counter. But in Manchester City’s 2-1 win over the Bees earlier this season, for large portions of the game, they outplayed Pep Guardiola’s side. All told Manchester City must be at their best to continue their recent winning run. A tough test awaits them at the GTech Community Stadium tonight.
