According to Turkish outlet NTVSpor, the player’s agent has opened talks with the Süper Lig club over possibly extending his stay.

The 26-year-old has been with the Istanbul outfit since moving from QPR in the 2021 January transfer window.

The full-back has made 97 league appearances for Fenerbace in that time, helping them finish second in each of the last three Super Lig campaigns.

However, his current deal is set to expire at the end of this season, leading to speculation over his immediate future at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.

Norwich City’s Bright Osayi-Samuel interest

It was reported by Turkish outlet Fanatik earlier this month that Norwich have an interest in signing Osayi-Samuel in the near future.

The Canaries have made a bright start to the new Championship campaign, and will have their sights set on a possible return to the Premier League.

But their attention has already turned to potentially improving Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side with the addition of Osayi-Samuel either in January, or in the summer as a free agent - at this point, a pre-contract deal could be discussed in January with a view to returning to England next summer.

But these latest developments could scupper those plans, with the player’s agent being invited to talks with Fenerbahçe over a new deal.

It is believed that Osayi-Samuel is earning around €600,000 (£498,000) per year, with his representatives looking for an increase worth €2.5 million (£2.1 million) a year.

Fenerbahçe are reportedly hoping to find an agreement closer to €1.5 million (£1.25 million) per year, so it remains to be seen if a deal can be struck.

The Sun Nigeria have also claimed that French side Lens - managed by Will Still - are interested in signing the player, meaning Norwich may face competition for his signature should he opt to leave Fenerbahce at the end of his current deal.

Osayi-Samuel previously played in English football with QPR, where he made over 100 league appearances in the Championship, having also come through the ranks of the Blackpool academy system.

If Osayi-Samuel wants to stay at Fenerbahçe, then this is a positive development for his career as he can use Norwich’s interest to leverage a better contract offer.

And if he’s uncertain on the next step, then he can weigh up his options and see which offer best fits what he wants to do next.

This is a great spot for him to be in, as the interest that’s been generated in him gives him a lot of control over where he’ll be playing next season and beyond.

Norwich will be hoping he bides his time and waits until closer to the end of the campaign to make a decision, as a clear promotion push by April or May could be very convincing in their bid to win his signature.
