Bristol City head coach Steve Kirby has left his position off the back of the club’s unsuccessful season in 2024/2025.

The Robins announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Kirby was appointed Bristol City head coach following former boss Lauren Smith’s departure in September. He went on to win eight of his 18 league matches in charge of The Robins, resulting in the club finishing the 2024/2025 campaign in the underwhelming position of sixth in the Barclays Women’s Championship table.

With the season now over, it has been revealed that Bristol City and Kirby have come to a mutual agreement to go their separate ways.

After Kirby’s departure was announced, Bristol City Women Chair, Gavin Marshall said “We would like to thank Steve for his hard work and professionalism over the past seven months and wish him all the very best in his future career.

“Our priority is to now find the best candidate to push us forward for next season in WSL2.”

Bristol City will now begin the recruitment process as they look to appoint a new head coach for next season. The club will be keen to push for promotion back to the Barclays Women’s Super League in the next 12 months.
