Things couldn’t get much worse for Stade Malherbe de Caen at the moment. The club 80% owned by Kylian Mbappé’s investment fund Coalition Capital have endured a horrific run of seven straight defeats in all competitions, with the sacking of manager Nicolas Seube in December and his replacement Bruno Baltazar doing no better to stop the rot. Following Les Vikings’ 3-0 loss to ESTAC Troyes last weekend, Caen dropped to bottom spot in Ligue 2, and are now seven points away from the relegation play-off spot held by Paris-based Red Star FC. For some supporters, this was clearly a step too far for a side which was initially touted at the start of the season as being in the race for promotion. In recent hours, banners aimed at the Mbappé family have appeared at Caen’s training facilities, as reported by local media. The Real Madrid player’s mother, Fayza Lamari, was even mentioned on one of the banners, reading “Fayza, the peasants are in deep sh•t.” Club chairman Ziad Hammoud was also targeted with a banner which read, “Hammoud resign. Where are you?”. A third banner read “Think of those who work in the shadows.”Kylian Mbappé’s investment fund – Coalition Capital – purchased the 80 % share of Caen’s previous owners – American asset management firm Oaktree – for a reported €15m back in July. Ziad Hammoud is a former beIN Media group executive, and was appointed as the club’s president shortly following the purchase. Last season Caen finished only one point outside the play-offs.GFFN | George Boxall
