Maxime Crepeau was busy early, saving an attempt from recent Concacaf Champions Cup top scorer Salomon Rondon in the 3’.

Jacob Shaffelburg put Canada up in the 13' with a right-footed tap in front of goal. Jonathan David was essential in the buildup, dribbling into the box before passing it off for the assist.

Shaffelburg struck from the edge of the box in the 24’ but was denied the second by Venezuelan goalkeeper Rafael Romo.

Richie Laryea delivered a dangerous ball towards the left post in the 31’, but Cyle Larin couldn’t connect to extend the lead.

Salomon Rondon struck just a few steps from the center circle in the 64’ to equalize on a Venezuela counterattack.

Liam Millar came off the bench and nearly retook the lead for Canada in the 67’, but Romo diverted the attempt.

Tani Oluwaseyi had a look towards goal in the 81’ with a chipped ball that just went over the crossbar.

Rondon had another look on goal in the 85’ but was blocked by Crepeau.

Canada won 4-3 on penalties after Ismael Kone converted the winning kick in the first round of sudden death.

As a result, the Canadians advance to the semifinals, where they will face Argentina on Tuesday in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
