MIAMI – Panama and Canada advanced to the Final of the 2025 Concacaf W Futsal Championship on Saturday at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
As finalists for the inaugural edition, the two nations also qualified to the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup Philippines 2025.
Costa Rica 1, Panama 3
Panama became the first nation to punch its ticket to the inaugural W Futsal Championship after a 3-1 win against Costa Rica.
Las Canaleras took the lead in the 16’ after Kenia Rangel finished an individual play with a right-footed shot. Las Ticas evened things out to start the second period, when Roxiny Lopez struck a right-footed volley to the back of the net in the 22’.
Panama stuck to its game plan and regained the advantage in the 38’ with a left-footed shot by Laurie Bautista. As Costa Rica pushed to tie, Panama goalkeeper Nadia Ducreux scored in the 40’ to put an exclamation point on the victory.
Mexico 4, Canada 4
Canada defeated Mexico, needing penalties to win 4-3 in the shootout after the match finished 4-4 in regular time.
Rosa Aguiar scored the opening goal in the 2’ with a right-footed shot. She secured a brace and the second goal with a left-footed strike in the 14’, becoming the top-goal scorer for Mexico in the W Futsal Championship. Ariatna Dorantes sent a one-time volley to the back of the net in the 18’ to send Mexico with a three-goal lead into halftime.
Canada pulled one back in the 22’ after Jade Houmphanh intercepted the ball to strike with her first goal of the campaign. Cynthia Gaspar-Freire closed the gap with Canada’s second goal in the 23’.
Esther Brossard equalized for The Canucks in the 24’ with a right-footed finish. Canada took the lead for the first time in the 27’ as Brossard earned her brace.
Rubi Gomez found the Mexican equalizer in the 40’, with a hit off the volley to send the match to extra time. Nothing would separate the teams in the additional periods, requiring a penalty shootout to decide the last spot in the final.
Canada was victorious from the spot kicks, with Gaspar-Freire striking the winning kick, to complete its comeback and advance to the Final on Sunday.
