Tajon Buchanan is finally ready to return for Inter Milan, and the timing couldn’t be better with an injury to Carlos Augusto.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
It’s been a long injury ordeal for Buchanan.
The 25-year-old only joined Inter in January of this year. But he’s had to miss the entirety of the start of this season.
The reason was a broken leg that Buchanan suffered during the summer.
Buchanan was part of the Canada squad for the Copa America, but fractured his tibia in training.
That injury required surgery. And it was always clear that the recovery period was going to be several months.
More pessimistic projections suggested that Buchanan could very well be out until 2025.
But then, as the Canadian’s recover has moved along, he has been targeting the months of October and November.
Buchanan has been healed from his leg break for a few weeks now.
The 25-year-old began working individually in training last month.
But it is not as though Buchanan has been able to just quickly regain fitness and match-sharpness.
The former Club Brugge wingback has been patiently rebuilding his condition over the past month or so.
But now, Buchanan is back in full training. Inter coach Simone Inzaghi confirmed that the Canadian was able to work with the rest of the squad as normal for the first time since his injury yesterday.
Therefore, a return is closer than ever for Buchanan.
The Canadian could even be in the squad for tomorrow’s Serie A clash with Juventus. Even if an appearance in that match would be virtually impossible.
Buchanan is hardly going to be starting matches for Inter in the next week or two.
But there is no doubt that the 25-year-old is ready to at least start coming off the bench over the coming fixtures.
That is a big boost for Inzaghi, since Inter still have four matches in the space of two weeks after tomorrow’s Derby d’Italia.
And Inzaghi will be without Carlos Augusto for all of those matches, most likely. The Brazilian is out with a thigh problem.
Accordingly, having Buchanan back is a very welcome boost in terms of the depth at wingback.
