Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has this week provided his take on the ongoing drama surrounding officiating in Spanish football.

The subject of refereeing has of course taken its place back front and centre in the La Liga headlines over recent days.

This comes after major decisions sparked widespread chatter in the fixtures involving both Real Madrid and Barcelona.

In the former, Los Blancos were left feeling extremely hard done by, after a series of overlooked penalty shouts were compounded by Jude Bellingham being shown a straight red card for protesting.

On Monday night, Barcelona were then the beneficiaries of altogether more favourable refereeing, en route to taking their place back atop the La Liga table.

As much has sparked unrest across the board at Real Madrid, from players to staff and fans alike.

Speaking during an interview with Mundo Deportivo early this week, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of such qualms was put to Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal.

And the 17-year-old made use of the opportunity to throw his backing behind Spanish football’s officials:

”When we were six points behind, I remember the penalty on Jules (Koundé) at Getafe, which they didn’t call, but yesterday they did call that penalty on Iñigo. So, I don’t know… In the Copa del Rey, the referees first went in Madrid’s favour and then against Osasuna they went against them. It’s going to be like that every matchday. I don’t think we can complain, Madrid, Barça and Atlético. I think the referees try to do their best. There isn’t as much talk about games like the one against Alavés and Leganés, and maybe there are more controversial actions. But the referees try to do their best. It’s a very difficult job because someone will always complain. We are very happy.”
