“Can’t just pick and choose” – Roy Keane perplexed by Man United stars following Liverpool draw

Former Manchester United Roy Keane liked what he saw from Ruben Amorim’s band against Liverpool, but wants them to ‘back it up’ in their upcoming fixtures.

The Red Devils arrived at Anfield riding a three-man losing streak in the Premier League, and having lost their last four across all compeititons. Therefore, the club’s supporters were only hoping to avoid another embarrassing result against their high-flying rivals who have been slowly but surely running away from the chasing pack.

But contrary to all expectations, Amorim’s men proved to be formidable opponents for the Premier League leaders. They even stunned Anfield by taking the lead shortly after the interval, with Lisandro Martinez scoring Man Utd’s first goal at Anfield since December 2018.

While the home side turned the result upside-down shortly afterwards through Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah from the spot,  the visitors replied by levelling the score thanks to a lovely combination from Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo. While both sides had glorious chances to win it in the final minutes, the match ended in a somewhat fair 2-2 draw.

Roy Keane wants to see the same Man United fighting spirit

For his part, Keane noted that United have finally shown some desire and fighting spirit, he warns the players that they must show up every week rather than occasionally as it’s been the case this season.

“Manchester United turned up. They showed a bit of passion. They did it at Manchester City recently as well.” said the legendary Irish midfielder during his appearance on Sky Sports.

“The argument to all of this though is that you can’t just pick and choose when you want to turn up for a game at Manchester United.

“I don’t think anyone would have predicted them scoring two goals today or nearly nicking it at the end. But the key is that they have to back it up,” concluded Keane.
