Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti tested another member of his squad at right-back in training to start the week.

That’s according to Blancos insider Miguel Ángel Díaz of COPE, who points towards Ferland Mendy as the player in question.

Real Madrid are of course primed to return to action later this evening, when they make the trip to The Etihad for a Champions League playoff meeting with Manchester City.

In the buildup to the clash, the Spanish champions’ options at right-back have been nothing short of ravaged, with Dani Carvajal’s long-term knee injury having been followed by Lucas Vázquez picking up a muscular problem over the weekend.

Carlo Ancelotti and his coaching staff will therefore be forced to get creative when it comes to the right of the club’s backline on Tuesday night.

And, as alluded to above, amid preparations for as much to start the week, those in charge at Valdebebas tried out a new option at right-back.

As per the aforementioned Miguel Ángel Díaz, left-back Ferland Mendy switched to the opposite flank in training over recent days.

The Frenchman is in turn seen as an alternative option to Federico Valverde to start in the role against Man City.
