Celtic are set to miss out on Aston Villa attacker Louie Barry as the winger is reportedly on his way to joining Hull City in the January transfer window.

Earlier this month, the Daily Mail reported that the Bhoys made an offer for Villa striker Barry as Brendan Rodgers was keen to bolster the attacking department.

The Scottish champions proposed an offer in the region of £5 million with a further £5m in add-ons plus a buy-back option for the 21-year-old.

However, Villa insisted that the player won’t be sold in the window.

Barry enjoyed a productive loan spell at Stockport County, where he scored 16 goals in 24 games, before returning to Villa this month.

However, it seems like Celtic will miss out on signing him, either permanently or on loan, as he is on his way to joining Hull City.

BBC Radio Humberside’s James Hoggarth claimed that Hull could be set to win the race for the former England youth international, and the player could be undergoing his medical shortly.

Leeds United, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough all were linked with a move for Barry, but it appears he is moving to MKM Stadium.

Celtic, meanwhile, have confirmed the signing of Jota, who returned to Parkhead on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

The 25-year-old was a hero at Celtic Park when he previously joined from Benfica in 2021. In his first spell at the club, he scored 28 goals in 83 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops.

The past few years have been a nightmare for him. His big-money move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad didn’t work out properly.

He then moved to Ligue 1 side Rennes, where he spent six months after his disastrous spell in Saudi Arabia. It was even worse.

Celtic probably could try to sign Barry next summer if his loan spell works out well.
