MIAMI – CF Pachuca, the reigning Concacaf Champions Cup holders and FIFA Derby of the Americas winners, meet FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup champions Al Ahly FC in the FIFA Challenger Cup as part of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2024 on Saturday at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar.
Pachuca won 3-nil against Copa Libertadores champions Botafogo in the FIFA Derby of the Americas on Wednesday to advance to the FIFA Challenger Cup. Oussama Idrissi (50’), Nelson Deossa (66’), and Salomon Rondon (80’) were key players in the attack, while Carlos Moreno, Andrés Micolta, and Luis Rodríguez led the way defensively.
Each of those players also played a role in helping CF Pachuca to its sixth Concacaf Champions Cup title. Rondon, Idrissi, and Deossa were three of five Pachuca players named to the CCC Best XI last June.
Idrissi was named the Player of the Match for his spectacular opening goal. He played off Bryan González, another CCC Best XI selection, to circumvent the Botafogo defense before delivering an exquisite finish inside the penalty area.
Egyptian club Al Ahly FC won 3-nil against Al Ain FC of the United Arab Emirates in the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup on October 29 at the Cairo International Stadium in Cairo, Egypt. Wessam Abou Ali (32’), Emam Ashour (55’), and Mohamed Afsha (90’+2, pen.) were the scorers in that encounter for the reigning CAF Champions League winners.
Real Madrid CF, the 2024 UEFA Champions League winners, await in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2024 Final for the winner of the FIFA Challenger Cup. The Final will be disputed on Wednesday at Lusail Stadium in Lusail, Qatar.
