Champions League draw in full as Premier League clubs learn fate | OneFootball

The Champions League last-16 draw has been made with the three Premier League teams learning their fate.

This year’s competition has moved to a new format that began with the inaugural league phase. Replacing the traditional four-team groups was a single 36-strong league table with each team playing eight matches against eight different opponents, four at home and four away.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa all qualified automatically for the Round of 16 with a top-eight finish in the league phase and were seeded for Friday’s draw.

UEFA used to hold draws throughout the knockout rounds, but the new format sees league phase ranking build brackets of pre-determined opponents.

Liverpool will take on Paris Saint-Germain in a blockbuster tie. The French champions are the only team unbeaten domestically in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Arsenal knew Dutch opposition awaited in the last 16 and the Gunners will face PSV Eindhoven in the last 16.

Aston Villa are up against Club Brugge for a place in the quarter-finals. Brugge eliminated Atalanta with impressive home and away wins over the Italian side in the play-off round. The teams met in the league phase with Brugge winning 1-0 in Belgium.

When is the Champions League’s last 16?

The first leg of the last-16 ties ties are on March 4th and March 5th, with the returns scheduled for March 11th and 12th.
