Xabi Alonso could make up to five changes to his Bayer Leverkusen side ahead of their Champions League against Atlético Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday night.
Lukas Hradecky, Arthur, Robert Andrich, Martin Terrier and Patrik Schick all started in Leverkusen’s 3-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga Topspiel on Saturday evening, but Alonso is expected to make a host of changes with, as predicted by kicker, Matej Kovar, Nordi Mukiele, Piero Hincapie, Jeremie Frimpong, and Exequiel Palacios coming it.
That would of course mean a front two of Nathan Tella and Florian Wirtz in what’s presumably a double false nine setup against Atlético, with Patrik Schick dropping to the bench. Although Victor Boniface has returned to training, this game comes too soon for the Nigerian.
As for Atlético, who sit two points behind leaders Real Madrid in La Liga, Diego Simeone is expected to name the same team that lost 1-0 against Leganes at the weekend with Antoine Griezmann partnering Julian Alvarez in attack. Alexander Sørloth, who has been in excellent form for Atlético this season, could return to the bench following his recent injury.
Atlético Madrid: Oblak – Molina, Le Normand, Lenglet, Galan – de Paul, Barrios – Simeone, Gallagher – Griezmann, Alvarez
Bayer Leverkusen: Kovar – Mukiele, Tah, Tapsoba, Hincapie – Frimpong, Xhaka, Palacios, Grimaldo – Tella , Wirtz
