On Monday night, at Mineiro, Atlético-MG and Chapecoense shared the spoils in the fifth round of the Brazilian Championship, playing out to a 1-1 draw. Tchê Tchê gave Galo the lead in the 24th minute of the first half, but Ravanelli equalized for the visitors from the penalty spot ten minutes before the final whistle.
Chapecoense came close to scoring in the first few seconds of the game when Fernandinho had a one-on-one with Everson, but the forward made a rash decision and was caught off guard by the goalkeeper.
With more possession, Atlético looked for ways to break down the visitors’ defence, resulting in Hyoran missing a huge chance. Counterattacks became Santa Catarina’s trump card and only option, but they were unable to capitalize. Galo, on the other hand, scored after a series of missed opportunities from both sides.
With a powerful drive from the outskirts of the goal area, Tchê Tchê put the hosts ahead in the 24th minute.
Atlético came out firing in the second half, threatening to score from the first minute. Goalkeeper Joao Paulo had to make a fantastic save to keep Hulk’s amazing strike out. Another opportunity presented itself, but Keno missed the mark by a whisker.
Minutes later, Fernandinho came close to scoring for the visitors via an effort that hit the post and almost went in, but it was held out somehow. The visitors were awarded a penalty after Alan fouled Fernandinho in the area in the 80th minute, which Ravanelli converted to draw the game level.
Before the final whistle, Hulk came close to putting his team back in front, but the play was called back owing to offside.
Both teams will return to the pitch for the Brasileiro’s sixth round on Thursday. Atlético will play Ceará at Castelo. Chapecoense hosts Internacional at Arena Condá.
