The 38 year-old’s long-awaited first senior managerial role comes after the League 1 club lost manager Michael Tidser and assistant Kevin McDonald left for Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic.

Mulgrew spent time as U18s gaffer at Hamilton Accies after hanging up his boots in 2023 and reportedly missed out on a ‘B’ team role at Celtic last summer.

Mulgrew made 134 appearances for Celtic

But now, the ex-Celt who made 134 appearances for the Hoops between 2010 and 2016, has decided to leap into the New Central Park hot-seat.

Kelty Hearts currently sit third in League 1 on 31 points after 21 games. Mulgrew’s new side are only three points off Arbroath who sit top of the table, but The Red Lichties have a game in hand.

Joining Charlie Mulgrew as his no.2 is former Dundee United and Falkirk midfielder Mark Kerr. Kerr previously managed Ayr United between 2019-2021, so his valuable coaching expertise may be crucial in Kelty’s promotion push.

Mulgrew will manage former a former Celt

Interestingly, Mulgrew will manage his former teammate at Celtic, Scott Allan. The duo played together in Glasgow’s East End during Ronny Deila’s era.

Good luck to Charlie in his new endeavours. A successful coaching career awaits.
