Nottingham Forest lifted the FA Women’s National League Cup after a 3-1 victory over Stoke City in the final at Walsall FC.
Charlie Wellings struck twice in a three-minute spell around the half-hour mark, sweeping home from a Mel Johnson flick and then beating goalkeeper Lauren Bracewell with a swerving shot from outside the box.
Forest goalkeeper Emily Batty pushed away an Evie Priestley effort on the hour mark, Bracewell tipped over a Mollie Green free kick from 25 yards.
Tamara Wilcock came off the bench and swiftly headed Stoke back into the game, from a free kick launched in by Arabella Suttie.
Forest regained the two-goal cushion as Caragh Hamilton laid the ball off to Johnson, who lashed it into the back of the net.
It was Forest’s second FAWNL Cup Final win in three seasons and their third victory over Stoke this term.
