Charlton Athletic will travel to face Exeter City in their next League One fixture.

Charlton Athletic's trip to St James Park could not be timed any better for Nathan Jones, as he looks to get his side back to winning ways in League One.

The Addicks are unbeaten in six games in all competitions, but they have drawn each of their last three fixtures in League One, meaning that Nathan Jones will want to get another three points under his belt as soon as possible.

Jones' side are currently 12th in the third tier, four points adrift of the top-six, so they must make the most of their next few fixtures if they are going to keep up with the promotion contenders going into December.

Charlton narrowly beat Southend United after extra time to reach the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday, but they return to League One action this weekend against Exeter City at St James Park.

The Addicks also come up against Peterborough United and Huddersfield Town this month, and they will want to carry momentum from a victory over Exeter into those games.

Exeter could be the ideal opponent for a Charlton side that is in need of a win in League One, considering the Addicks' recent record against the Grecians.

Charlton Athletic have a good recent record against Exeter City

Charlton have taken 16 points from a possible 18 in their last six League One fixtures against Exeter City, and also beat them in the EFL Cup, so they should go into the game with plenty of confidence that they can get a positive result.

Seven of those points were earned from three league games at St James Park, with the 1-1 draw in March being the only time that the Addicks have failed to beat Exeter since February 2011.

The last time Charlton won against Exeter away from home was during the 2022/23 campaign when goals from Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Corey Blackett-Taylor were enough to secure a 2-1 victory.

Regan Charles-Cook netted the winner when the Addicks beat Exeter at St James Park in the EFL Cup in 2017, while Danny Green scored the only goal when Charlton won at the same ground during their 2011/12 title-winning campaign.

Jones will hope that Charlton's unbeaten record against Exeter can be extended with a win, as he looks to guide the Addicks back into the promotion picture.

Charlton Athletic must produce a good performance against Exeter City

It is important that Charlton turn up at St James Park, as a defeat would leave them with just three points from a possible 12 and four games without a win away from home in the league.

They have picked up six points from their last four games, which did include a victory over title favourites Birmingham City, but if they lose against Exeter, then they risk dropping into the bottom half of the table ahead of potentially difficult games against Peterborough and Huddersfield.

Jones has experience of being successful in League One from his time at Luton Town, so he will know that his team needs three points at St James Park, and considering Charlton's recent record against the Grecians, the fixture may have come at the perfect time for the Welshman.
