It's fair to say there was contrasting emotions towards Boro's match-winner after his controversial penalty handed Middlesbrough victory over Argyle.
Tommy Conway was Middlesbrough's hero at the Riverside Stadium, as his late, albeit controversial penalty, handed Michael Carrick's side three vital points against Plymouth Argyle on Good Friday.
With Boro having taken an early lead through former Argyle star Finn Azaz after 12 minutes, Miron Muslic's men found a swift response, as Mustapha Bundu pounced on a Middlesbrough mix-up at the back before firing home the equaliser on 17 minutes.
From then on, it was the home side who largely monopolised the possession and tempo of the game, and despite their best efforts, they just couldn't find that winning goal.
That was until added time at the end of the game, when Conway was judged to have been bundled to the floor inside the box by referee Anthony Backhouse, who then brandished a straight red card to Plymouth defender Joe Edwards.
Boro's Scottish international buried the penalty in emphatic style, and in turn, kept Middlesbrough's play-off push alive for another week, whilst further pushing Plymouth to the brink of League One relegation.
Finding themselves mere minutes away from any realistic hope of a play-off finish being achieved, Conway calmly and cooly slotted home from the penalty spot to send the Riverside into raptures.
For Middlesbrough, it will feel like they got their just rewards, having controlled the lion's share of the ball, despite their shaky defence handing the visitors numerous opportunities to punish them.
Conway himself took to his X account after the game, simply saying: "Until the end." So, how did Middlesbrough supporters react to their goalscoring saviour's post?
One fan wrote: "You need to be made captain next year Tommy."
"You're like a wasp at a picnic. Made a nuisance of yourself and wound their keeper up. Keep on doing it Tommy, love it," another wrote.
It's fair to say that whilst Middlesbrough supporters were delighted with their 13-goal striker, Plymouth fans certainly were not.
Understandably so as well, as the Pilgrims are fighting for their Championship lives, and a hard-earned point on Teesside would've surely been a result many Argyle fans would've taken before kick-off.
"I’d be embarrassed, wish the EFL took retrospective action." another said
Another Plymouth fan said: "You’re a cheat. It’s symptomatic of the modern game and how weak the @FA_PGMOL and their staff have become. Threw yourself to the ground twice in one game. Be ashamed pal, be ashamed."
