Chelsea picked up a morale-boosting 4-0 victory against Southampton on Tuesday evening.
After a pre-match protest against the Chelsea ownership, tensions were high inside Stamford Bridge and frustrated fans made their stress levels known when the Blues took their time trying to play out from the back.
With 24 minutes on the clock, Chelsea got the goal their fans were desperate for. After Aaron Ramsdale's excellent save to deny Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku bundled home from the ensuing corner to put the Blues ahead.
Nkunku turned provider shortly after as he played Pedro Neto through on goal. The stand-in striker crashed his effort beyond Ramsdale to give Chelsea an imposing lead, which was extended further as Levi Colwill rose to head home a Neto free-kick to raise the mood at the interval.
Palmer blazed over and Neto was let down by a poor first touch as Chelsea sought to extend their lead, but they had to wait until the 78th minute for Marc Cucurella to finish off an excellent cut-back from Tyrique George.
