Chelsea have made a number of enquiries to sign new strikers this window, but as they go through the shortlist, the options are slimming badly.

Jhon Duran looks set to go to Saudi in a big money move, and Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is not available until the summer unless Chelsea drop plus £50m to sign him now. Other options have been approached but at the moment have been a no-go.

Sources: Chelsea considering late move for PL striker who isn’t Liam Delap!!

Yesterday, I reported from sources that Evan Ferguson could still be an option. They mentioned permanent, which I would not be overly keen on doing at this point. But I would take a dry loan until the end of the season with an option to buy. This could still present a risk, but I think it would be a punt worth taking.

If we could put an option to buy in the deal on our terms as well, then that would be a decent move.

Yes, he is an injury prone player, at least so far in his career he has been. But that does not mean he will continue to be injury prone going forward, many players have made switch-ups to conquer being injury prone, it can happen.

Low risk high reward

If we signed him on a dry loan this month and he got injured, we would not be losing out too much financially. If he comes in and stays fit for most of the rest of the season and provides some solid competition for Nicolas Jackson as well as being that different profile that we so badly need, then we are winning. It’s very low risk with potential high reward.

Ferguson brings that stature, that focal point, that physicality up top. We need to add all of that. If he is available on a loan move this month and there is still a chance to get him, I’d be all over it on a dry loan if other targets are not gettable.

In just 27 starts for Brighton within 59 appearances in the Premier League, he has registered 13 goals and 2 assists in 2557 minutes played. That’s not bad for a 20-year-old who has been unable to sustain consistent playing time yet.

I think he has A LOT of potential if he can get on top of the injuries, and this could be a smart move.

I’ve given up hoping Chelsea will sign experience for the spine of our team, which is what we need – so the fact Ferguson has Premier League and international experience, would be a reluctant compromise for me.

Obviously Delap and Viktor Gyokeres would be my top choices for the striker position, but they aren’t happening this window. So get in a decent temp option and reassess in the summer.
