Chelsea have ‘completed’ a deal for the transfer of Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors.
Born in a rural village in Argentina in 2005, the young defender is the latest South American player to join the ranks of the Blues.
The west London outfit have been scouring the continent for precocious talents since Clearlake Capital took over the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022, signing Brazilian youngsters Deivid Washington, Ãngelo and Andrey Santos.
Chelsea have agreed a deal with Boca for Anselmino and will pay the Argentine club a transfer fee ‘in excess’ of $20 million (£15.5m), according to Fabrizio Romano.
Reports had suggested that the centre-back would arrive in London for a medical on Sunday, but Romano claims that he will travel to the UK on Monday.
Anselmino will remain with Boca Juniors on loan until January at least as part of the deal. With Chelsea boasting strength in depth in central defence, it would appear likely that it won’t be the last time he will be loaned out after joining the Premier League club.
The 19-year-old came through the Boca academy before signing his first professional contract with the club last summer.
Anselmino, who signed a four-year contract extension in January, has made ten senior appearances for Boca, scoring one goal.
Provided the deal goes through, it would be Chelsea’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.
They have already captured Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Caleb Wiley, Renato Veiga, Omari Kellyman and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall so far, while goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is also expected to join the club from Villarreal.
