Chelsea ace Cole Palmer once again cut a frustrated figure after failing to end his goal drought in Thursday’s Europa Conference League clash against FC Copenhagen.

The Blues booked a spot in the quarter-final of Europe’s third-tier tournament following a 1-0 win against the Danish champions at Stamford Bridge.

After a 2-1 win in Denmark, a draw would have been enough for Enzo Maresca’s side to push through, but they extended their winning streak in the competition to eight games.

Another drab first-half showing left the fans frustrated and fearing the worst.

However, their anxiety soon faded as unlikely hero Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall popped up with a decisive strike ten minutes into the second half.

Chelsea’s woeful first-half performance forced Maresca to make a double change at half time, with Palmer and Marc Cucurella coming on for Josh Acheampong and Enzo Fernandez.

There was a noticeable uptick in the tempo and overall performance levels with Palmer on the pitch, but his frustration in front of goal continued.

The 22-year-old Blues talisman had 39 touches despite playing just 45 minutes.

He recorded one key pass but failed to convert his only clear-cut opportunity, sending a tame effort straight at the Copenhagen keeper.

Despite his frustration in the final third, Palmer’s all-round performance was impressive, but it has now been ten games across all competitions since the England international last scored.

You’d also have to go back 19 games for the last time he weighed in with an assist. However, Chelsea cult hero Joe Cole is convinced it’s only a matter of time before he ends his dry spell.

“Cole Palmer will have loads of spells like this in his career,” Cole said (via BBC Live). “He just needs to be calm and smooth.

“He looks like the coolest man in the room. It could be affecting him, but the dry spell will end, hopefully on Sunday against Arsenal.”
