Chelsea defender Kadeisha Buchanan has pulled out of international duty with Canada due to an ongoing injury.

Canada Soccer announced the news earlier today via a post on their official association Twitter account.

Buchanan’s injury is understood to have been sustained prior to her reporting for international duty with Canada. The player was set to play for Bev Priestman’s side against France on Tuesday evening but she has instead returned to Chelsea for a further medical assessment.

Chelsea cannot afford to lose another key player to injury. The Blues already have serious doubts over the immediate availability of centre-back Millie Bright while Pernille Harder, Fran Kirby and Kateřina Svitková are still out. Chelsea face a huge Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-final tie at Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon while their two-legged UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final tie against FC Barcelona is also on the horizon. Emma Hayes’ side cannot afford to lose any more players to injury.

Full details of Buchanan’s injury have been left undisclosed by Canada Soccer. An update on the player’s condition is expected to be issued by Chelsea ahead of their latest fixture at Aston Villa this weekend. Should Buchanan not be fit, manager Hayes could have a selection dilemma at centre-back.
