Buchanan is currently sidelined with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury which she sustained towards the end of last year. She is expected to return to fitness at the start of next season. Despite being sidelined, the defender continues to be a key member of the Chelsea squad and the club have moved to retain her services for two more years.

After signing on again with Chelsea, Buchanan said “I am really excited to have extended my contract here at Chelsea. The club has turned into family, and I feel settled in the country and the league as well. I can’t wait to get back out there with the team to achieve what we aim to accomplish every single season and more.”

With a new contract now agreed, Buchanan can put her full focus on her rehabilitation with the support of the Chelsea medical team.
