During a week of contract extensions for Chelsea, the Women’s Super League champions announced Guro Reiten and Aniek Nouwen will be staying at the club until 2026.
The Blues have triggered the option to extend Reiten’s stay for at least another year, while Nouwen put pen to paper in a new deal until next summer. The Dutch international said she is ‘very grateful for this extension and the trust’ from the club as they prepare to return to WSL action.
Reiten joined Chelsea from Norwegian side LSK Kvinner in 2019, and the 30-year-old has been vital to Chelsea’s many successes. During her time at the club so far, Reiten has won five Women’s Super League titles, three FA cups, two League Cups, and the Community Shield. She has also played in a Champions League final, as the Blues continue to pursue the trophy that has evaded them.
Reiten has made 177 appearances for Chelsea so far and has recently surpassed 50 goals for the London club. This places Reiten as the third top goalscorer of all time in the WSL. These achievements have also been replicated on the international stage, where she has represented Norway at four major competitions, and is closing in on 100 caps.
Nouwen joined the Chelsea ranks in 2021 from PSV in a highly anticipated move. She spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan with AC Milan, and helped them finish third in the final Serie A standings. Unfortunately for the 25-year-old, she sustained an ACL injury in December 2023 while on international duty with the Netherlands U23 team.
Chelsea’s head of women’s football Paul Green has confirmed Nouwen is making ‘good progress with her rehabilitation’ and the club will monitor her fitness ahead of another potential loan this month.
Chelsea currently sit top of the WSL table, five points clear of closest rivals Manchester City. The Blues will be back in action this weekend as they face off against Charlton in the Women’s FA Cup.
