Chelsea lost 2-1 against Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round last night, and Blues fans will hate the response to one question by Enzo Maresca.
The Italian sat down after the game to speak about the defeat and Chelsea going out of another competition and missing out on another chance to win silverware this season.
Chelsea took a very early lead through and awful goalkeeping error from a Cole Palmer cross for the second week in a row, getting very lucky. But after that, nothing was good at all for Chelsea and Maresca made some other comments too after the game that Chelsea will will be fuming with.
The rest of the game just fell away from Chelsea and their play was lethargic, poor, had no imagination, just more possession play but not looking like doing anything with it.
Chelsea soon went 2-1 down against the home side and they didn’t even look like they would get close to finding an equalising goal. And in the end things just faded out and Chelsea got dumped out of the cup by a team who recently lost 7-0 against Nottingham Forest.
Enzo Maresca speaks about Joao Felix departure.
Maresca was asked after the game:
Were you disappointed with the way your players reacted to going 2-1 down tonight?
“No, I don’t think so because after the second goal we conceded, I think we had two or three moments, two or three chances where we could score. The reaction has been there but every game is different.
“This game is different from West Ham. Also, we were at home [vs West Ham] in our stadium with our fans – that can help a little bit. In terms of a reaction, after the second goal we conceded, the reaction was there.”
