Chelsea are in talks with AEK Athens over the transfer of out-of-favour forward David Datro Fofana.
The Ivorian has been deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea but failed to secure an exit before the closure of the transfer window across Europe’s top five leagues.
Several markets remain open, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Belgium and Greece and Fofana is understood to be in talks with AEK Athens over a move.
Fofana is one of several outgoing Chelsea are working on as the Blues look to trim down their squad, with Harvey Vale, Alex Matos, Deivid Washington, and Ben Chilwell all free to leave.
The former spent last season on loan at Union Berlin and Burnley, scoring four times in 10 Premier League starts for the latter after his January move to Turf Moor. Fofana has struggled to establish himself at Chelsea and the 21-year-old has made just four senior appearances for the West Londoners since his arrival from Molde.
It is unclear at present whether the move to AEK Athens is a loan deal or permanent transfer.
AEK Athens are also understood to be pursuing a deal for former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, who is a free agent after ending his nine-year spell at Old Trafford in the summer. The French forward has reportedly been offered a record-breaking contract to move to the Greek capital.
