Chelsea will look to boost their Premier League top four hopes when they face Arsenal in a blockbuster clash on Sunday at 1:30pm.
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; Fofana, Tosin, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Sancho, Palmer, Nkunku; Neto
Chelsea appear to have turned a corner following a recent dip in form. Thursday’s 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen, which secured their place in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals, was their fourth victory on the spin in all competitions.
Enzo Maresca’s side, who sit fourth in the Premier League table, will be eager to build on that momentum against Arsenal, with Manchester City and Newcastle United now just two points adrift.
As is the norm, Maresca rotated his squad for the Conference League in midweek, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s goal enough to complete Chelsea’s aggregate win over Copenhagen.
Cole Palmer had been a doubt going into that game due to a recent bout of illness, but he came off the bench at half-time as Chelsea looked to up the pressure. It was a similar case for Christopher Nkunku and Reece James, who came on later in the second half.
Malo Gusto may be back in contention, having missed the past two matches due to injury.
Pedro Neto could continue the line in the absence of Nicolas Jackson, who remains sidelined through injury.
Maresca confirmed earlier in the week the Senegal international and Noni Madueke will not be available until after the international break.
Although Chelsea have certainly returned to winning ways, their focus will now be on addressing their away form.
The Blues are winless in their last six on the road in the Premier League, losing each of their past three. Not only that, but Arsenal have had the better of this fixture in recent times.
The Gunners are unbeaten in six Premier League meetings, and now looking to win three in a row against Chelsea for the first time since the early 2000s.
Now would be an ideal time for Palmer to get himself back among the goals, with the Blues’ talisman failing to find the net in his last 10 outings. He also failed to convert a penalty for the first time during last weekend’s win over Leicester.
But while he has been drawing a blank, left-back Marc Cucurella has scored in both his last two Premier League appearances, as many as in his first 69 games for the club.
