Chivas goalkeeper Antonio ‘Toño’ Rodríguez has warned fans not to expect the same standard of play in Liga MX if and when games resume after the coronavirus shutdown.

The Clausura was suspended on March 15 following the tenth round of games.

“With the break everything will start from scratch,” Rodríguez told Efe.

“I would be lying if I say that the team will continue with the same level of play, but the whole league will resent it.”

He added: “The team that will beat it the fastest will score a lot. We started from scratch. Nobody has been able to kick a ball in two months.”

The 27-year-old, who has spent much of his Chivas career on loan at other clubs, is planning to make the most of his time as the Flock’s number one netminder.

“I know and am aware that my best years are yet to come, and I want to live them in a team like Chivas,” the Guadalajara native said.

“I don’t want to let it go for nothing. I want my work to see that this is the place where I want to be.”

There is no date set yet for a resumption of play in Mexico, but Liga MX president Enrique Bonilla has vowed to complete the Clausura in full.
