Chris Sutton has predicted Arne Slot’s Liverpool to pick up all three points at Anfield this weekend.
Liverpool will take on Southampton at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Merseyside club are at the top of the league table at the moment with 67 points from 28 matches.
Liverpool, who could lose Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, are as many as 13 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, who have played 27 matches.
Meanwhile, Southampton look set to get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
The Saints are rooted to the foot of the table with nine points from 27 matches.
Former Chelsea striker Sutton believes that Liverpool will win the match against Southampton with ease.
The BBC Sport pundit has backed the Reds to pick up all three points even with a weakened team.
Sutton wrote on BBC Sport: “I am at this game for 5 Live and I would not be surprised if Liverpool make quite a few changes.
“They have got a big lead at the top of the Premier League but they still have work to do in the Champions League against Paris St-Germain next week. They got a great win in the first leg in Paris but that tie certainly isn’t over.
“If Reds boss Arne Slot had a third team, he might think about using it here – but he can probably get away with playing his second team and still being too strong for Saints.
“It is around 230 miles from Southampton to Liverpool, and fair play to any Saints fans who make the trip – they are absolute die-hards because they are not getting anything at Anfield.
“I would be saving my petrol money, because they know they are getting beaten, same as they know they are getting relegated this season.
“Sutton’s prediction: 2-0”
Liverpool beat Paris Saint-Germain in France in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League last-16 tie this week.
The Reds will head into the second leg of the tie at Anfield next week with a 1-0 advantage.
Although the Premier League leaders will be favourites, it is only a one-goal lead.
Slot needs all his best players fit and available for the second leg against PSG, which is why the Liverpool manager needs to rest some of his top stars against Southampton in the Premier League this weekend.
Southampton have won just two Premier League games all season.
The Saints have scored 19 goals and conceded 65 times in 27 league matches this season.
It is hard to see Southampton cause an upset at Anfield.
And even if the Saints do win, Liverpool will still have a considerable lead over Arsenal and need not panic about a slip-up in the Premier League title race.
