Former Celtic defender Christopher Jullien has praised Cameron Carter-Vickers, stating that the USA Internationalist could be Callum McGregor’s replacement as captain. The pair shared a dressing room together in Ange Postecoglou’s first season and remain in contact despite minimal time on the pitch together.
Speaking to The Herald, the Frenchman praised CCV, suggesting that some might have written him off due to his height but that he is a quality option for Celtic. Cam was just different.
“He is a strong guy and efficient in everything that he does – no fancy stuff! He is just a perfect defender. There were some people who would say, ‘Maybe he is a little bit small,’ but he is good at headers and can jump, which is what is best for a defender.”
“I am really happy for him, as he is a good guy, and I still speak to him sometimes. He is a good leader on the pitch, but, of course, Callum (McGregor) is the leader, and the first leader that comes to my mind.

“I have no doubt that Cam can take the captain’s role for the team, no doubt about it. I think he deserves this.”
Carter-Vickers is a key figure in the Celtic dressing room and often takes the armband off CalMac when the skipper earns a brief spell on the sidelines. The return of Kieran Tierney to the club could change that but that a decision for Brendan in the summer.
CCV has been an incredible signing since arriving initially on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. Along with Carl Starfelt, CCV formed a formidable defensive pairing, which was vital to Ange Postecoglou’s success in his first campaign. This resulted in Jullien playing just once before leaving the club.
