MIAMI. - The 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup concludes its opening week with two first-leg encounters in Round One on Thursday.
The inaugural winner of the competition, CD Guadalajara, will travel to the Dominican Republic to face the Concacaf Caribbean Cup runners-up, Cibao FC.
The reigning Concacaf Men’s Player of the Year, Adalberto Carrasquilla, and Pumas UNAM will take on Canadian Premier League champions Cavalry FC.
Cibao FC and CD Guadalajara face off at Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.
After its runners-up finish in the 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup, Cibao will seek to match its best-ever finish and reach the Round of 16. Rivaldo Correa was the team’s leading scorer in the tournament with six goals and will be one of the players to watch in the 2025 CCC.
Chivas of Guadalajara will look to take the first step in reclaiming the Concacaf Champions Cup trophy, which it lifted in the 1962 and 2018 editions. Roberto Alvarado, a two-time Gold Cup winner with Mexico, is the team’s current scoring leader with two goals in the Clausura 2025 season.
Cavalry FC hosts Pumas UNAM at Starlight Stadium in Langford, British Columbia.
After winning its first Canadian Premier League title, Cavalry FC seeks to make additional history by advancing past Round One for the first time. The club debuted in the 2024 edition and returns for a consecutive edition with players like CPL Final MVP and Golden Boot winner Tobias Warschewski.
Runners-up in the 2022 edition, Pumas UNAM seeks another marvelous run and its first Concacaf Champions Cup after winning the 1980, 1982, and 1989 editions. Adalberto Carrasquilla, the reigning Concacaf Men’s Player of the Year and Gold Cup Golden Ball winner, recently joined the club to join a corps that includes Mexican national team forward Guillermo Martínez and two-time CCC champion Rogelio Funes Mori.
