AC Milan must make some big decisions in the coming weeks as planning for 2025-26 begins, with one in particular standing out.

Calciomercato.com report that Giorgio Furlani’s trip to Dubai – officially for commercial commitments – will be the first official move by the Milan CEO during the international break. However, the next 10 days should be the decisive ones in identifying and hiring the new sporting director.

The first answer to the question of who will build Milan’s near future is first and foremost Furlani. The trip he made to the United States at the beginning of the month to meet the owner Gerry Cardinale has in fact certified his centrality even to the detriment of Senior Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Swede had already started several contacts with directors to try to test the waters for the future, even conducting some discussions alongside the owner in London, but it will be Furlani who will make the final decision.

Among the many names mentioned, the most intriguing for RedBird Capital is Tony D’Amico. Formerly of Verona, D’Amico is continuing his reputation as someone with an excellent eye for talent, building a team for Gian Piero Gasperini that won the Europa League and are fighting for the title.

Another candidate is Fabio Paratici, who is more used to working with the media pressure of a big global club like Milan. In his years at Juventus – where he was alongside Beppe Marotta – he brought in some young talents but also orchestrated huge operations like the Cristiano Ronaldo one too.

The suspension that he is serving for the well-known ‘Capital Gains case’ will expire on June 20, but the civil trial that is ongoing with the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office is still pending against him and this is holding back the Rossoneri.

The name most supported by Ibrahimovic has always been that of Igli Tare. Compared to D’Amico he also has an eye for young or undervalued talent but has a more imposing presence. He worked under president Claudio Lotito at Lazio for 15 years, who always wanted the last word.

Finally, the hypotheses that would lead to a new sporting director coming from abroad and without direct experience in Serie A are slowly moving away. Thiago Scuro of Monaco has confirmed to the press his desire to stay, and Marcus Krosche of Eintracht Frankfurt also does not want to leave.

The next 10 days will therefore be decisive, if not for the final choice at least to reduce the number of candidates. The season is ending and the top clubs are already moving by placing the first moves for next season, so Milan cannot be left behind.
